Random Summer Wanderings…

Glassy Mountain hiking I heard about this place via Facebook. I’ll have to check it out. Should be a great fall hike! I like the ease of hiking a fire service road! It’s out Hwy 76 towards Clayton. And that VIEW! I’m going to tuck this one away for Fall and leaf peeping!

Concert Series at Brasstown Community Center I have attended several of these concerts and all have been wonderful. This is heart land music! Bluegrass mostly and played by local or regional bands, many of which are families! The food is home cooked and tasty and there is usually a homemade cobbler of some sort depending on what fruit is in season. It’s an all-around good time with a chance to meet some nice folks from all over and locally. It’s only $5 plus food!

Stecoah Valley Center This place looks like a world of opportunity to learn new skills and to enjoy local music on a regular basis. Learn to build a drum! And enjoy evening concerts! Check it out! John C Campbell Folk School is another great gem close to Murphy! Learn all sorts of crafts and sit in on some wonderful concerts!

Blue Ridge Rodeo August 17 and 18 are the dates for this don’t miss rodeo! I love rodeo and if you’re like me, some of the best parts of the event is the people watching! The action is nonstop with the requisite rodeo clown keeping things lively and there is always an event just for the kids. Make plans now to attend!

Deep Creek Tubing in Bryson City I have to admit that I have been here tubing several times. It’s a blast and you float by a waterfall right on the creek! It’s safe for the young kids but not too young on this river. It involves some walking as you need to hike back to wherever you want to put in the creek. It’s a carefree way to spend a day! Also check out: Tubing the Hooch in Helen All ages are welcome on this shallow peaceful river. You go by bus to the starting point and just float down the river! Be sure to get a BBQ sandwich at the local stand!

Clingmans Dome This is an awesome place to visit! This site has all the facts and figures about Clingmans Dome. I love the history and that awesome VIEW! And it’s a beautiful drive to get there!

Cherokee Events So many things to do and see in the community of Cherokee! The casino with its world class entertainment or check out Unto These Hills The Story of the Cherokee People which is world class also! Pretty shops and great restaurants are also part of the town. It’s just a short day trip from Murphy.

So many things to do and see here in Western North Carolina! Farmers markets offer fresh produce and there seems to be an arts and craft show every weekend somewhere. Ride a horse, tube a river, hike a mountain, and take a swim in the lake! Get out there and enjoy all the mountains have to offer!
