June

I sure hope this finds you all well and happy! This has been a long stretch of isolation and sheltering in place. Our county has been blessed with minimal infection rates. North Carolina isn’t fully open as of this writing but we are beginning to see signs of the return to life on the horizon. Restaurants and hair salons will be opening in the next week or so most of the retail stores are open with limited capacity. I would suggest you follow WKRK on Facebook for all the local updates.

The real estate market is beginning to comeback to life as more and more homes are being listed every day. Prices have stayed steady so if you’re thinking about buying this is a great time! Mortgage rates are historically low and our inventory is growing daily. Keep an eye on my website: Your Mountain Dreams where you can access the MLS and see what is in our market. As we get farther into June, the inventory will continue to increase as comfort levels rise. I expect a pretty good year as folks in the metropolitan areas seek out a mountain hideaway.

Now for some local things happening! All of the local train runs are currently taking reservations for trips this summer. Wineries are open with appropriate precautions. Local farmers are more visible and offering FARM to TABLE availability of their produce and meats. This may be one of the more wonderful things to come out of this interruption: Local people dealing with local businesses and local food. While Walmart and Ingles may be convenient, there’s nothing that beats a local supply chain of fresh meats and produce. Maybe this is how food should be supplied, locally sourced and not off a truck and full of preservatives. Good to know our area has some awesome farms with fresh meat and produce!

Check these places!

Appalachian Driving Experience This business is fairly new to our area and are housed in the old Moose Hollow building across from Valley River Brewery. They rent high end cars to drive our wonderfully curvy roads! Could be a bucket list item to check off!

Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster This is a new attraction in Banner Elk, just a day trip from Murphy! I will be trying this out over the summer. Call ahead because as of this moment they are only taking reservations for local folks. They are brand new and doing a soft opening.

.

Hiawassee Pro Rodeo May 22 and 23 are the dates. If you have never been to a local rodeo, this may be one not to miss! It’s at the Hiawassee Fairgrounds.

Now is the time to plan your mountain getaway and think about making that getaway your own home in the mountains!

Be smart, be safe, and stay kind.
